Curtis M. Matthews
Curtis M. Matthews, 76, of Rt. 1, Bishop, died Monday after a sudden illness. Born in Madison County, he had lived in Oconee County all of his life.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rays United Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Duffey will officiate, assisted by the Rev. James Beatty. Burial will be in Bearnden (sic) Cemetery in Oconee County. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Jane Matthews; two sons, Douglas Matthews and Ray Matthews, both of Farmington; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Carole Nordan of Griffin; a stepson, Joe W. Stowe of Nashnivlle (sic), Tenn.; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Carrol Matthews, Robert Osborne, Gerald Matthews, francis (sic) Daniel, Alfred Matthews and Heyward Matthews.
Honorary pallbearers will be F.F. Dickens Jr., Melvin Aycock, Frank Parrish, Joe W. Wheeler, Ralph Dickens, and Shannon Thomas.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
