Baby Meets Death in Fall Into Open Well

A tragic accident occurred on Monday afternoon at about 5:30, when Edward Comer, the 13-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Farmer, fell into a well at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Comer, and died before he could be rescued.

Workmen had been engaged in repairing the pump at the well, and had left the opening covered with a slab. In some manner this was removed to the side, and the baby, wandering out of sight of his mother, fell into the well.

Only a little water was in the well, and the child was brought to the surface as quickly as he could be reached, but too late to save his life.

The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon in Oconee cemetery, Dr. W.P. King, of the First Methodist church, Athens, officiating.
