Ray Matthews, 72, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997.

A native of Oconee County, he was a son of the late Curtis Matthews and Lois Aiken Matthews. A retired farmer, he was a member and deacon of Bishop Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bishop Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Holmes officiating. The remains will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Bearden Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Lord Matthews; a daughter, Gloria Matthews, Watkinsville; a son, Darryl Matthews, Watkinsville; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Bishop Baptish Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 9, Bishop, Ga., 30621.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Arthur Bowick's Oconee Chapel, Watkinsville.
